OK, here's the scoop. I have 47651 Finnair Plus miles, with 11003 expiring at the end of December 07. The Finnair website says 40000 miles gets me a Qantas return flight within Australia or to NZ, New Caledonia or PNG. What's my best "value for money" option ex BNE?

Given that you have access to fly anywhere - where do you want to go and how long do you have when you get there? If a weekend then probably SYD/MEL/ADL due to short flying time and thus more bang for your buck. If you have more time then your options are only limited by the availability of seats.

    EDIT

The best "value" would have to be to go somewhere you want or need to go. No point in travelling to PER if you would prefer a holiday in CNS.

Yep, I guess my question was a bit vague. I'll have more than just a weekend to spare; something like 4-8 days would probably be ideal. Where do I want to go? Wherever I can get to with the miles that would otherwise be expensive... I like to visit new places I've been thinking of the PNG/NC options but so far haven't been able to figure out how to get there on non-codeshare QF.

I agree that if I want/need to go to CNS then that's what I should do, but this time it's more about where I can go.

    Oh yeah "Welcome to AFF"
    Cheers

Following up on my own post... I ended up getting a BNE-POM-BNE ticket - I hear the diving in PNG is quite good. My 1st preference was BNE-NOU-BNE but either Qantas doesn't really have FF seats on those flights or they are booked quite far in advance. Apparently there's no way to query for "1st available flight with FF seats"? At least the Finnair call center person couldn't, she had to check each potential flight individually.
