This happened to me despite Gold status at the QP at Bangkok Airport last year. My connecting flight QF3853 Bangkok-Zurich was "only" a code share flight and I was basically told to piss off. QP staff told me to go to the Cathay lounge which was totally wrong of course
Lesson learned: double check what Qantas sells you
